project02_shannonh.pdf Just finished a CGIA project using a quote on time. The gist of it is that you can’t live creatively in the present if you are freaked or worried about your past or future. So, after working on three projects this week, I’m ready to collapse into the hot tub at the ‘ol family cabin at Mt. Baker. There is no internet access, so I can’t keep up with the blog until Sunday. Oh, too bad!

Finally I’m getting out of Vancouver for the long weekend and going to San Fran. I’m looking for any “art” related events that might be deemed significant…so if anyone out there in blog land can enlighten me?…I found a digital arts show that looks really interesting, with a great trailer.

Here’s my revised intervention. It’s addressing issues like dealing with unreasonable stress and going beyond your creative limits. It’s kind of a parody to Bruce Nauman’s ‘Failure to Levitate in the studio’ but with my own twist of the ‘attempt’ and balancing failure with success, insecurities, and risking alternative outcomes.

This is a hypothetical ley line I created between my house and my grandparents cemetery. Ley lines are alleged paths of energy that align sacred sites. Spirits are believed to travel along these lines. My pilgrimage was to find symbolic references along my ley line and photograph them. I was totally surprised by the sites and objects I encountered.

Now if I can figure out how to link it to the blog…
It’s that time of year again to face your fears and carry on, and to celebrate the circle of life and death. The Parade of the Lost Souls and Illuminares Lantern festival was last night. The Public Dreams society lists all their upcoming events.
It was my birthday last week. I am officially not any older…at this age I can decide that. When I was born, my parents brought me home on Halloween…when I was about 10, I dreamed of becoming a witch (Wicca of course)…until one night something was scratching it’s nails across my window…repetitively. You have to understand that my window was too high to reach unless you had a ladder. I was so freaked I was frozen in bed, couldn’t move, couldn’t scream. All I could think of was that I had effectively called the witches, and I was either to become part of their brethren or else I would be sacrificed along with the eye of newt. The next morning I checked outside the window, but no sign of anything. This event still disturbs me….Oh, and sometimes I see things and feel things that shouldn’t be there. That’s a whole other discussion though.
Ok, I rarely get to watch tv, but there was something on Kelly and Regis about extreme pumpkin carving and also if you are looking for last minute Halloween costumes! OMG!
Happy Halloween!
Recommended not to try at home…Ryan Leech has uncanny balance. Prague is on my places to go list, so if anyone has been, then let me know.
I let myself be guided by my inner voice quite a bit, and then I’m left to figure out how to follow it. Sometimes I feel like I’m in a little boat being tossed in hugh waves, and I just have to practice my ujjayi breathing and hope to get through it. I the past 3 years I’ve had to deal with some life altering circumstances. This has turned out to be a really introspective time for me and also really influential. For instance, I find myself interested in global events and their impact on society. Weird, since I never did before. It’s also been a time where I’ve decided to pursue my affinity towards art…becoming more educated, staying current and developing some focus. I’m also trying to balance (the libra in me) my life with my kids…since the little people are the future. The last thing I want is to feel pigeonholed, and I want to leave all the doors to possibility open. I feel like I have a stronger sense of self now, and that I’m heading in the right direction, even though I’m not sure what that direction is yet…

This is entertaining, and I love the way the color, movement and graphics bring the monochrome background to life. I wish I could produce it in DIVA. Thanks for the info on the lumalive teeshirts Suzi. This site has info on the LED technology. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFxzR1pLKiY
There is a transition area at Lonsdale quay that I find fascinating. The skeletal remains of the old Burrard shipyard are waiting to be torn down, and new high rises are being built behind them. It is very quiet here, like a graveyard, despite the surrounding activity. You can feel a kind of eerie presence of the thousands of people who worked here over a hundred year period. This turned out to be a difficult panorex to make seamless because of all the lines on the bridge and building that had to line up. I feel like I captured a piece of history before the whole area changes.

As a blog rookie, who has to learn through trial and error and some frustration, I’ve psyched myself up for the challenge. But now I have to get out of bed, have my chai tea and get to work. Life has invaded….and I’m late again.
